Random acts of kindness.

January 24th 2008 by D in Random Acts of Kindness

Today I volunteered at my local SPCA. Yes a lottery winner can volunteer at the SPCA. It was sad to see how many pets are just dropped on the porch because people don’t want to pay the $25 surrender fee. It was definitely an eye opening experience.

I love animals and to see the way some of them were just tossed aside made me feel sick. So my day basically consisted of taking the animals in, caging them, feeding them and giving them water. Then I got to put a collar on them. I met one very special kitty named “Dugsley” today. For some reason from the moment Dugsley’s mommy dropped him off he would not stop freaking out unless I was holding him.

I felt like I needed to take Dugsley home, because his mommy didn’t want to give him up. She wasn’t supposed to have him and so when her landlord found out it was the cat or the house. She did what she had to do.

I decided to take Dugsley home for a while in the foster program until we can find a nice person to adopt him. Something I learned today is that your random acts of kindness don’t always need to be directed at people. I felt good that I could help this kitty! He sure doesn’t like Jolly Roger though!
