Fear of flying.
January 25th 2008 by D in I won the lotteryWhen I won the lottery I knew it was inevitable that I would have to get on an airplane at some point. I had managed to do a good job of avoiding it in my previous life. But just as I predicted, I ended up on a plane about a week after I collected my winnings.
I don’t know why I’m so scared of flying. It is statistically more safe than a car. Millions of people fly each day. But for some reason when I get in that metal death tube I just freak out. I have panic attacks. I often have to have a rum and coke to calm myself down. Or I find myself drinking Long Island Ice Teas in the airport bar before liftoff.
I’m an adult that is reduced to a quivering heap of fear when I even think about flying. But for some reason I still do it. Its probably shaving years off of my life. But then again who wants to drive anywhere these days?
I love my cars but I don’t want to put the miles on them
. Anyways, I just thought I’d share this with you guys. Lottery winners are human too. I’m sure many of you have learned that by now.

you know, up until about 7 years ago, i had never stayed in a hotel, never flew on a plane, never really gone out of state. but, i decided to get on a plane and overcome the fear of flying by taking myself from Nashville, Tn to Amsterdam, NL.
there was no other way for me to do it, and i love flying now. i’ve flown all over the states, europe, and the carribbean. Good luck on getting over the anxiety….it goes away after a few flights.
you could try taking one of those “face your fears course” those are supposed to help for these types of things
maybe i will
I feel like every time I’m afraid of something, once I write it down and really spell out what Exactly it is I’m afraid of it helps. Therapy ain’t bad for that sorta thing either
hmm, maybe I can try that. I’m getting over it a little more each time I fly though.
I’ve flown a few times and I can’t say that I enjoy it, though I wasn’t white knucked either. As Ron White said, when asked how far one engine would go…..all the way to the crash sight! My point is…there are a lot of other ways people die and I would imagine that in a plane, it would be pretty quick and painless. Not that I’m very religious, but when it’s your time……it won’t matter where you are or what you are doing.
